WAYS OF RAISING MONEY

          1. The old tried and trusted ways of Fetes, Coffee Mornings etc. (separate from the current ones already in place which are and must continue to be used to bolster our very scarce resources.) Much of our current income must be used to pay the Parish Share, which for a Church such as St John's which as a Grade I Listed Building has so many calls on funds is a great difficulty. It is considered that to relieve financial worries for both the immediate future, and for future generations that as a part of the Appeal a sum of £x determine by the PCC, is set aside as Parish Capital and that the income derived from this sum be used to bolster the needs of both Parish and Diocese. (That is assuming that Interest Rates return to a more acceptable level for savers over the next few years.) An additional income of £20k/£25k per annum would relieve the Parish of many of the worries of running both Parish and project overall.

         2. The St. John's Project.

         3. Seeking Government aid, National and local Funding (including the Lottery) and International Funding Bodies, as well as other interested funding bodies for general or particular items of work. (e.g. the organ)

         4. Seeking sponsors for a particular part of the work.

         5. Seeking charitable bequests.

         6. Sponsored events.

         7. Public donations either for specific restoration or for general running and maintenance.

         8. Web-site donations.

         9. Acceptance of Public Speaking invitations to outside bodies and Guided Tours outside normal opening hours.

         10. Special Concerts where the performers generously donate the proceeds to the Appeal.

We envisage that 'the new St. John's' will be an attractive venue for money raising concerts as well as raising capital by the letting of facilities to outside organisations. This will go a long way to establishing the Parish on a sound financial footing and create a culture that will be to the benefit of the local community and visitors to the City.

These are our first thoughts, much work particularly of a technical and financial nature needs to be done over the coming months and years.
